Aditi Das, assistant professor in the Department of Comparative Biosciences at the College of Veterinary Medicine was recently named the 2019 recipient of the Mary Swartz Rose Young Investigator Award from the American Society for Nutrition (ASN) and its Foundation. This award recognizes an investigator who is within 10 years of postgraduate training and who has contributed outstanding research on the safety and efficacy of bioactive compounds for human health.
Dr. Das has published important findings related to endogenous cannabanoids derived from dietary omega-3 fatty acids. In 2017 her team demonstrated that the body converts omega-3 fatty acids into cannabinoids that have anti-inflammatory benefits similar to cannabinoids found in marijuana, but without the psychoactive effects.
