The Neuroscience Program is committed to funding students for the normal duration of their graduate careers. Support may come from Neuroscience Program Fellowships or University Fellowships, Research Assistantships, Teaching Assistantships, and NIH Training Grants. All students are required to teach for one semester. Students are also encouraged to write proposals for NRSA or other fellowships, and training in grant writing is provided. Competitive stipends combined with a low cost of living in the Urbana-Champaign area free the student to do research and allow for a diversity of social and recreational activities. Generous travel support is provided for students to attend meetings such as the annual Society for Neuroscience meeting. Most students attend a professional meeting every year, often beginning in their first year of graduate school.
