Circadian rhythms, estradiol, and endocrine disrupting compounds

The Mahoney Lab is interested in investigating the effects of estrogen and endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs), particularly phthalates, on behavioral circadian rhythms and gene expression in the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN). Additionally, our lab investigates how exposure to estrogen or EDCs during development influences adult circadian rhythms.

I am currently working on two separate collaborative projects. The first is investigating the transgenerational effects of di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) on behavior and gene expression in mice. The second is using a rat model of circadian disruption to understand the connection between circadian rhythms, impulsive behavior and response inhibition, and sex steroid hormones.
