The link between reproductive behavior and nutritional state in the sea slug Pleurobranchaea californica

I am interested in using simple invertebrate model species to develop a thorough understanding of the neural basis of behavior and decision-making. Currently I am studying the link between reproductive behaviors and nutritional state in the sea slug Pleurobranchaea californica; as a general rule animals will only reproduce when they have sufficient nutritive stores, but how do they sense nutritional state? In turn, how do the hormones/peptides that communicate this state alter nervous system activity to produce reproductive behaviors? Answers to these questions will shed light not only on reproductive behaviors, but on the regulation of behavioral state in general.
