Annual Events

Open House

The Open House is NSP's annual recruiting event, held each February. Top applicants are invited to visit the campus, meet members of the program and interview with faculty. This is our chance to showcase our program, meet future colleagues, and enjoy socializing with others in the program. Open House features a reception and poster session, a banquet, an after-dinner talk by a member of the Neuroscience Program faculty, and a student party following the banquet.

This year's Open House will be held on February 9-10, 2017.

Open House banquet is Friday evening at the Alice Campbell Alumni Center.

Brain Awareness Day

Since 2001, UIUC's Neuroscience community has been engaged in educating the community about brain function with a Brain Awareness Day each spring. Although primarily for children grades K-12, all ages are welcome to attend. The 16th Annual Brain Awareness Day was held at the Orpheum Children's Science Museum in Champaign on April 16, 2016, and was a huge success! Nearly 470 children and adults visited 25 exhibits and demonstrations. Thanks to everyone in the Neuroscience community who participated and made this event possible.

The day's main attractions are the interactive exhibits that are fun and.educational for the whole family. Some exciting past exhibits have included "Action Potential!" (Hernandez Lab), "Real Brains!" (Sara Royston, Daniel Dougias and Joey Operskalski) "The Holodeck Project" (John Capozzo and Kevin Horecka) and "Pay Attention!" (Eubig lab undergraduates).

SfN Night at NSP

The "pre-poster" session is a chance for those planning to attend the annual Society for Neuroscience meeting to show early versions of their posters and receive valuable comments and feedback before preparing the final versions.

Posters begin at 4:00, and a buffet dinner will be served in the Cafe area at 6:00. All are welcome. RSVPs will be requested as the time draws near.

SfN Night this year will on November 1, 2016.
